Climbing Kilimanjaro In January and February

January and February are two of the best months to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and therefore also the most popular. They are the warmest months. Ideal trekking conditions with mostly dry, clear days, and good visibility. Occasional showers and a good chance of snow over 14,000ft, making for some epic photo opportunities.

While this is considered “high season”, it’s often quieter on the slopes than the main climbing season of June to September, making it a good balance of not-too-crowded and decent weather.

Best for: Hikers who want to minimize crowds, whilst still having dry conditions. Snow on the summit is a bonus.

When are the best times to climb Kilimanjaro?

The best  time to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro are the months of  January through early-March and End of June through October. The clear skies, great views, and sunshine make for spectacular photo-opportunities and comfortable hiking conditions.

June and December are good months to go as well but there is more chance of clouds and rain.

What’s the best route to use when Climbing in January and February.

The best routes to climb during the the dry season are the Marangu route where you will sleep in huts or the Rongai route, Machame route and Lemosho route.

Tanzania’s two rainy seasons are November, and March through May. That is why we do not offer any group climbs during those time.

If you are the adventurous type and don’t mind a little rain, you can have the whole mountain to yourself by booking a private climb during those months.
